Framing Climate Change as a “National Security Priority” Isn’t a Clever Maneuver to Get People to Care — It’s a Centrist Co-option Strategy to Bloat the Budgets of ICE and the Pentagon

One big piece of news this week is that the White House administrator has green lighted the Biden/Harris team to begin the transition. But several days prior to that, Eric Ward of the Western States Center published this amazing piece about how we needed to see ourselves as winners. That we need to move beyond being anti-Tr*mp and getting clear what we stand for. Ward’s work for decades studying white nationalist movements, fighting racism and anti-Semitism has been critical in helping us understand this moment. When I read this essay, Welcome to the Future: It’s Time to Act Like Winners. I basically found myself tweeting out half of it in 280-word quotes.

“The truth is, the programs of white supremacy and white nationalism have done virtually nothing for the vast majority of white people in this country. The Black-led program of democracy, on the other hand, has delivered tangible improvements to every one’s lives and communities.” -Eric Ward

I offer this as a crucial essay for all of us in movement building.

Enjoy!
