Like so many parents with kids in public school, we were all on lockdown, day after day, with hours to fill. Our family was fortunate, my partner and I both work from home, and there’s been no interruption in our income (yet). My man works full time and I work part time, and I’m the primary parent. Not only am I teaching a full load of college classes, I’m also writing several books. So I don’t have a lot of free time to sit and contemplate what exciting activities I want to do with my kid. I’m flying by the seat of my pants.

We had started a climate club at my kid’s elementary school and during the lockdown, I’ve heard more than once, “Mom, let’s do something with climate club!” I had no idea what to do. I had trouble coming up with ideas for what to do when the kids met in person, let alone via zoom. But when my kid showed me iMovie, I realized we could easily make a fun video about climate that would provide an accessible creative activity for kids in the club and their families, as well as providing some great messaging about the Green New Deal. Here’s what we came up with…

Making this video was really simple because iMovie’s “trailer” template includes all the graphics, music, and all you have to do is upload clips and text. I also bootlegged a few news videos (which is not illegal if you don’t sell the bootlegs). My how-to videos are below.

I am hoping to curate a Kids’ Climate Film Festival for Earth Day Live. Please consider making a video and submitting it to us. All the info you need is below.

Interested in submitting a video to us? Doesn’t need to be a trailer format. Just needs to prominently feature young people fighting the climate emergency. Remember, these videos are for kids, and we want to make sure they are age appropriate. Kids in climate activist families may have had conversations about the climate emergency and plenty of time to process information about the danger our planet is in. We want to put this out to the public, and some children have not had that opportunity. Please add a rating, so we can inform parents:
