Many of us had a vision for this week, the 50th anniversary of Earth Day. There would be millions marching in the streets demanding Climate Justice and pushing for the Green New Deal. Instead, we will have millions online, and the Daily Dose will be sponsoring three different events on Wednesday:

We kick off the morning at 9AM with Black People & the Climate Emergency. Daily Dose blogger Aya De Leon is on the faculty of the African American Studies Department at UC Berkeley, and. she wrote the first novel about Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico. In 2019, she gave the keynote for Afro Comic con, discussing how the climate crisis is demanding that Black people save the future.

At 3pm, Aya De Leon opens up her Poetry for the People class at UC Berkeley, where she has been commissioning both artists to write about the climate crisis. This reading will feature curated student work, Aya’s fiction, and a world premiere performance by international artist Shailja Patel, funded by UC Berkeley’s Creative Discover Grants.
