Two months ago, I was on tour, urging parents to climate revolution. I talked on radio shows and with reporters about how 2020 is our moment. We’ll elect climate champions! We’ll phone bank and register voters and knock on doors! And we’re gonna support our student strikers mobilizing for Earth Day’s 50th anniversary!

Pandemics have a way of changing everyone’s plans, and parents are some of the most severely impacted right now. We’re working from home, trying to keep everyone (including, often, our own parents) behaving on the social distancing front, and we’re suddenly, of all things, homeschooling. No wonder so many of us are losing our shit.

I cancelled my upcoming tours and asked parents, “What do you need right now?” The answers came in:

Solace.

Ways to keep kids learning, yet not constantly on screens.

Low-cost diversions when everyone’s crabby.

Ways to connect with isolated grandparents.

Help with angry teens.

Ideas for supporting young climate activists moving their movement online.

I made a list of 100 ideas, based on my book (The Parents Guide to Climate Revolution: 100 Ways to Build a Fossil-Free Future, Raise Empowered Kids and Still Get a Good night’s Sleep) and organized into categories: Care for yourself; Connect with Community; Live Simply & Save Money; Build a Fossil Free Future from Home, and more.

May these ideas help you thrive through this extraordinary moment.

Happy Earth Month.
